Meijer donates $34,000 to Manitowoc organizations

Prior to the opening of the Meijer Supercenter at 1818 S. Rapids Road in Manitowoc this Thursday, Meijer has announced it has donated $34,000 to organizations in Manitowoc County.

The family-owned retailer that operates more than 248 supercenters and grocery stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin, announced it had made the following donations:

  • Peter’s Pantry will be presented with a check for $4,000, in addition to $5,000 donated in April, to help the local food bank continue to fulfill its mission to provide meals for families in Manitowoc.
  • The Boys & Girls Club of Manitowoc County will receive $10,000 to help develop the future club at the former downtown Mirro site.
  • Manitowoc School District will receive $15,000 for the purchase of PPE so students and staff will have the proper equipment to ensure a healthy, safe classroom.

Meijer said in a news release that it donates more than 6% of its net profit to charitable organizations annually, and each of its stores work with local food banks and pantries to help fight hunger. Since 2008, the retailer’s Simply Give program has generated more than $57 million for its food pantry partners throughout the Midwest.

Doors to the Meijer Supercenter in Manitowoc will open at 6 a.m. Thursday. The grocery and big-box chain is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The store in Manitowoc is one of 12 that have opened in Wisconsin since 2015.
